PGN Distributes 149 Oxygen Cylinders to Support the Recovery of Healthcare Services in North Sumatra and Aceh

Serdang Bedagai – PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN), through its Sales Region and Operation I (SOR I), is optimising the use of medical oxygen support equipment previously prepared for the Covid-19 pandemic response. Following inspection and testing, this equipment has now been reallocated to support public healthcare services in North Sumatra and Aceh.

PGN has delivered one container unit and 49 oxygen cylinders, each with a capacity of 6 cubic metres (m³), to the 902nd Territorial Development Infantry Battalion (Yonif TP) ‘Sri Paduka Gocah’ in Serdang Bedagai, North Sumatra. These supplies support the readiness of healthcare services within the battalion, in line with the development of the Medical Company at Yonif TP 902/Sri Paduka Gocah.

The Commander of Yonif TP 902/Sri Paduka Gocah, Lieutenant Colonel Akhmad Saefuddin, stated that these oxygen supplies will be utilised to meet internal needs whilst also assisting healthcare facilities within the battalion’s operational area.

“We will use these oxygen cylinders ourselves, as well as distribute them to nearby military-run hospitals and community health centres with which we collaborate,” said Lieutenant Colonel Saefuddin.

Meanwhile, 100 oxygen cylinders of similar capacity were distributed to the Aceh Tamiang Regional General Hospital to support the restoration of healthcare services following the floods. The disaster had an impact on a number of medical support facilities at the hospital.

A number of oxygen cylinders belonging to the Aceh Tamiang Regional General Hospital were reported to have been swept away by the floodwaters, whilst others were damaged after being submerged in water and mud. Additional oxygen cylinders are needed to maintain the availability of medical support facilities whilst the hospital’s services are being restored.

Andi Sangga Prasetia, General Manager of PGN SOR I, stated that as the pandemic draws to a close, PGN is re-optimising these oxygen cylinder facilities to ensure they continue to benefit the community.

“PGN prepared these containers and oxygen refilling machines in the North Sumatra region in accordance with the government’s instructions to anticipate the need for medical oxygen during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, these oxygen facilities were used to help meet the increased demand for medical oxygen, particularly when a number of hospitals faced limited access to oxygen cylinder refilling services,” said Andi.

Andi emphasised that all oxygen cylinders distributed by PGN have undergone inspections and testing to ensure their suitability and safety for use.

“The cylinders handed over have been recalibrated and undergone hydro-testing, so we can ensure that all cylinders are in good condition and functioning properly,” said Andi.

The optimisation of these oxygen supplies forms part of PGN’s efforts to maximise the utilisation of resources that can continue to serve the community’s needs. As well as supporting the readiness of healthcare services in North Sumatra, the distribution of oxygen cylinders to Aceh Tamiang also supports the recovery of healthcare facilities affected by the disaster.

PGN hopes that the use of these oxygen supplies will help strengthen the readiness of healthcare facilities and provide sustainable benefits for communities in North Sumatra and Aceh.
